Job Description:
We are seeking a highly motivated and dedicated Welder Apprentice to join our factory team. This is an entry-level position that provides hands-on training and mentorship under the supervision of experienced welders. The ideal candidate is eager to learn the art and science of welding, committed to safety, and ready to contribute to a dynamic and collaborative work environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Learn and Practice Welding Techniques: Assist experienced welders in various tasks to learn different welding processes, including MIG, TIG, and Stick welding.
- Fabrication and Assembly: Learn to cut, grind, and prepare metal pieces for welding. Assist with fitting, tack-welding, and assembling metal components and structures.
- Equipment Maintenance: Assist in the daily setup, cleaning, and maintenance of welding equipment, tools, and work areas. This includes grinders, torches, welding machines, and other shop equipment.
- Safety Compliance: Adhere strictly to all company and industry safety regulations, including wearing appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times and following Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures.
- Quality Control: Learn to inspect finished welds for quality, accuracy, and adherence to project specifications under a journeyman's supervision.
- General Shop Duties: Perform other duties as assigned, such as material handling, keeping the shop organized, and assisting other team members as needed.

Requirements:
- Relevant subjects: While not always mandatory, having a background in subjects like metalwork, mathematics, physics, and technical drawing/graphics can be a significant advantage.
- Colour vision: Some apprenticeships, particularly those related to metal fabrication, may require you to pass a colour vision test. This is because differentiating between certain colours is crucial for identifying different welding materials and gases.
- Practical Aptitude: Excellent hand-eye coordination and a knack for working with your hands are essential.
- Problem-Solving: The ability to analyse technical drawings, identify potential issues, and troubleshoot equipment malfunctions is a key part of the job.
- Attention to Detail: Welding requires precision. Mistakes can compromise the structural integrity of a joint and create safety hazards.
- Communication & Teamwork: Apprentices need to communicate effectively with experienced welders and other team members to understand instructions and collaborate on projects.
- Safety Awareness: A deep commitment to health and safety is non-negotiable. This includes understanding and following procedures like Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) and the proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Leaving Cert or equivalent.
- Excellent written or spoken English.
- Computer literate.
- Flexible and open to change, Innovative problem solver, Enthusiastic.
- Ability and willingness to adapt to a team and build team spirit.
- Properness to follow procedures strictly so that the highest standards of quality and safety are achieved.
