Assistant Animal Welfare Manager (Fixed-Term)
📍 Based in Shercock | Full-time | Fixed Term
Who We Are
At Manor Farm, we’ve been producing premium Irish poultry for over 250 years — and animal welfare is at the heart of everything we do. As part of the Scandi Standard Group, a values-driven and people-first food business, we’re proud to lead the way in ethical, sustainable poultry farming.
Our Animal Welfare team plays a vital role in ensuring we uphold the highest standards across every part of our supply chain — from hatcheries to farms to processing. We’re now looking for a passionate and proactive Assistant Animal Welfare Manager to join us on a fixed-term contract to support this critical work.
Who You Are
You’re a detail-focused, scientifically minded professional with a strong interest in animal welfare and food production. You're keen to make a positive impact — on both animals and people — and thrive in an environment that combines fieldwork, data analysis, and continuous improvement.
You’re someone who:
Has a degree (or equivalent experience) in Animal Science, Veterinary, Animal Welfare, or a related discipline.
Brings experience in food production, farming, or FMCG — ideally with exposure to welfare, quality, or compliance standards.
Understands the importance of legal and regulatory standards in animal welfare and food safety.
Is organised, curious, and confident working with data, reports, and technical documentation.
Has excellent communication skills and a collaborative approach to problem-solving.
Is comfortable engaging with suppliers, internal teams, and certifying bodies.
The Role
As Assistant Animal Welfare Manager (12-Month Fixed-Term), you’ll support the Animal Welfare Manager in monitoring and improving welfare practices across our supply chain — from farm to factory. Your work will ensure we maintain compliance with legal, customer, and certification standards, and continue to drive best-in-class welfare outcomes.
You will also work closely with the Quality department, contributing to audits, documentation, and continuous improvement initiatives.
In this role, you will:
Monitor welfare standards across farms, transport, and slaughter – ensuring legal and customer requirements are met.
Track and analyse welfare-related data, including health indicators, Salmonella/Campylobacter results, and audit outcomes.
Support internal audit scheduling, training for staff and catchers, and record-keeping for compliance.
Assist with investigations into welfare concerns and help drive root-cause solutions.
Contribute to the development of welfare procedures and improvement plans.
Support quality and compliance tasks such as traceability, internal audits, and document control.
Promote welfare awareness across teams and champion our commitment to ethical production.
Why Work With Us?
Make a real impact – your work helps shape the future of ethical, sustainable poultry in Ireland.
Gain valuable experience – in a values-led company with a strong culture of learning and development.
Join a trusted Irish brand – with the backing of an international food group committed to sustainability.
Work with purpose – knowing your efforts support animal welfare, product quality, and customer trust.
Collaborate with a supportive team – where integrity, care, and continuous improvement guide our work.

About Manor Farm
Carton Bros founded way back in 1775 when it began trading in the Dublin Markets is home to the long established Manor Farm chicken brand. Originally in those heady days nearly 250 years ago, chickens would be brought from the farmyards all around the country to the Dublin Markets and Carton’s would sell them on. In later years people would send their live chickens on the train marked for Carton’s of Dublin where they would then be sold and the money would be sent back to the Farmers by return (less a commission of course). That was and is Real Trust.
